The CSIR-National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology (NIIST),
Thiruvananthapuram, a premier Institute of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR),
India is engaged in five broad areas of research namely
(i) Agroprocessing & Natural Products,
(ii) Biotechnology,
(iii) Chemical Sciences & Technology,
(iv) Materials & Minerals and
(v) Process
Engineering & Environmental Technology.
NIIST offers excellent infrastructure support, start-up
research funding along with a vibrant environment to perform research in a unique interdisciplinary
environment, wherein scientists enjoy a mix of individual freedom and collective scientific support to
undertake research of international quality. The institute plans to induct 1 Principal Scientist, 8
scientists, 1 Medical Officer and 1 Technical Officer with proven capabilities in the respective areas.

3. POST NAME : Medical Officer, Gr.III(4) – 1 (UR) in the Pay scale of PB-3, Rs.15600-
39100 with Grade Pay Rs.5400+25% Non-practising allowance on Basic Pay.
Qualifications of Medical Officer, Gr.III(4) :M.B.B.S Degree with 55% marks from a
recognized University.
Job requirement:- Examining patients, prescribing medicines, attending to emergencies
during the office hours, beyond the office hours and on holidays in an outpatient setup.
Desirable: Knowledge of local language(Malayalam) is preferred
Age limit not exceeding : 35 years
4. POST NAME: Technical Officer, Gr.III(3)- 1 (SC) in the Pay scale of PB-2, Rs.9300-
34800 with Grade Pay Rs.4600.
Qualifications : MCA with minimum of 55% marks after 1

class B.Sc /BCA ; OR B.E/B.Tech
in Computer Science / Information Technology /Electronics or equivalent with 55% marks.
Desirable : Experience in implementing highly available enterprise networks; good
knowledge of server technologies(hot pluggable, hot swap, SCSI,RAID and SAN systems);
experience in configuring and implementing network server management systems(e-mail,
web, DHCP,DNS, FTP, proxy etc);knowledge of gateway routers, network switches,
firewalls. Working knowledge of open source OS/Windows 2003/2008 server, Active
Directory and related IT enabled services.RHCE, CCNA, CCNP certification is preferred.
Job Requirement : Incumbent will be providing technological support for the network related
operational issues for IT services and provide enabling environment for implementation of emanagement applications for administration, purchase, finance project management so to
make the lab’s day to day functions fully IT enabled. Migration of existing applications from
obsolete to newer platforms .Handholding and imparting training to users on web enabled
applications etc. Configuring and managing network servers like DHCP, Proxy, DNS, FTP
,e-mail,web etc.

AGE LIMIT AND RELAXATIONS:
1. The date for determining the upper age limit, qualifications and or experience
shall be the closing date prescribed for receipt of application form ie ……..
2. Upper age limit is relaxable by 5 years in the case of SC/ST and by 3 years in
the case of OBC candidates for the posts which are reserved for the
respective categories, Relaxation of upper age limit for Persons With
Disabilities, Ex-servicemen and meritorious sportspersons will be applicable
as per GOI rules. The SC/ST/OBC candidates who apply against unreserved
vacancies will not be eligible for age relaxation. 3. Special Age Relaxation: Upto the age of 40 years in the case of Widows,
Divorced Women and Women judicially separated from their husbands, who
are not re-married.
4. Relaxation in age limit up to 5 years may be allowed to
Council/Govt./Autonomous Bodies/Public Sector employees in accordance
with the instructions and orders issued by the Govt. of India from time to time
in this regard.
5. Orthopaedically handicapped (OH) are those who have a minimum of 40% of
physical defect or deformity which causes an interference with the normal
functioning of the bones, muscles and joints.
6. Relaxation in the upper age limit of 5 years applicable for persons who had
ordinarily been domiciled in the Kashmir Division of the state of Jammu &
Kashmir during the period 1.1.1980 to 31.12.1989 subject to production of a
certificate from the District Magistrate in the Kashmir Division within whose
jurisdiction he/ she had ordinarily resided OR from any other authority
designated in this behalf by the Government of Jammu & Kashmir to the
effect that he/she had ordinarily been domiciled in the Kashmir Division of the
state of Jammu & Kashmir during the period from 1.1.1980 to 31.12.1989.
7. Relaxation in age, qualification and /or experience may be permitted if
sufficient number of candidates possessing the requisite qualification and /or
experience are not likely to be available to fill up the posts.
8. The decision of NIIST/CSIR in all matters relating to eligibility,
acceptance/rejection of applications, mode of selection and conduct of
Interview will be final and binding on the candidates.
General Conditions:
1. Only Indian Nationals need apply.
(a) The posts carry usual allowances as admissible to Central Government
employees as made applicable to CSIR employees of the same pay and
status stationed at Trivandrum.
(b) The post is pensionable based on defined contribution under the New
Pension Scheme which has been in vogue with effect from 01.01.2004.
2. The applications have to be submitted on prescribed proforma which can be
downloaded from www.niist.res.in or obtained on request by sending selfaddressed stamped envelope from the Administrative Officer, NIIST, Industrial
Estate. P.O., Pappanamcode, Trivandrum-695019.
3. Higher initial pay can be considered for exceptionally meritorious candidates
for Scientist post.
4. Scientists in Pay Band-3 are also eligible for 2 additional increments(without
DA) and Professional update allowance of Rs.10000/- per annum. Scientists
in Pay Band-4 are eligible for 2 additional increments(without DA) and
Professional update allowance of Rs.20000/- per annum. 5. Candidate should ensure that he/she possesses educational
qualification/experience in the relevant area as required in the category/post,
for which he/she is applying, on the last date of receipt of application.
6. In addition to the emoluments indicated above, benefits such as New Pension
Scheme of GOI, Leave Travel Concession, Reimbursement of medical
expenses are available as per rules.
7. Application for each post should be submitted separately indicating clearly the
advt. no. and name of the post, post no. on the top of the envelope containing
application.
8. Incomplete applications as well as those without the prescribed fee will be
summarily rejected.
9. Applications from the candidates working the Govt. Department,, Public
Sector undertaking will be considered only if forwarded through proper
channel and with a clear certificate that the applicant will be relieved within
one month of receipt of appointment order. However, advance copy of the
application may be submitted before the closing date and No Objection
Certificate may be submitted at the time of interview. Applications routed
through proper channel should reach this Institute at the earliest.
10. Mere fulfilling of minimum prescribed qualifications and experience will not
vest any right in a candidates for being called for interview. The Institute
reserves the right to call for interview only those candidates who on its opinion
are likely to be suitable and will not entertain any correspondence in this
regard.
11. Relaxation in age limit, qualification and experience in case of exceptionally
meritorious candidates( both departmental and outsiders) may be allowed
with the prior approval of the competent authority.
12. The period of experience in a discipline/are of work whereever prescribed
shall be counted with effect from the date of acquiring the prescribed
minimum educational qualification for that Group/Grade.
13. Candidates may opt answering in Hindi at the time of Interview.
14. The selected candidates will be posted in NIIST/CSIR(anywhere in India)
15. Persons with disability(PWD) are encouraged to apply.
16. Applications received after the due date and applications that are incomplete
are liable to be rejected. 17. Only outstation candidates called and found eligible for interview will be paid
to and fro single second class rail fare from the actual place of undertaking
the journey or from the normal place of their residence whichever is nearer to
Thiruvananthapuram Railway Station on production of Rail Tickets/Rail Ticket
numbers or any other proof of journey. Any discrepancy found between the
information given in application and as evident in original documents will
make the candidate ineligible for appearing in Interview. Such candidate will
not be paid any fare.
18. The Director, NIIST, Thiruvananthapuram, reserves the right not to fill up
any/all the posts, if he so desires. The number of vacancies indicated above
are provisional and may vary at the time of actual Selection.
The duly filled-in application, completed in all respects accompanied by attested
copies of certificates, testimonials in support of age, caste, community,educational
qualifications, experience etc mentioned in the application together with an
application fee of Rs.100/- (Rupees One hundred only) (candidates belonging to
SC/ST/Persons with disabilities(PWD)/Women candidates and regular employees of
CSIR are exempted from payment of application fee) in the form of crossed Demand
Draft (non-refundable) valid for a period of at least 5 months from the last date of
receipt of applications, drawn in favour of The Director, NIIST and payable at

Candidates who are abroad can pay application fee subsequently. Candidates of
Indian origin settled abroad who are of proven merit as evidenced by their
qualification, research work and experience if found suitable for the post may be
considered in absentia by the Selection Committee, on request.
