Applications invited for the Ph. D. programme for the academic session 2012-2013, Autumn semester

Eligibility:
The qualification for the Ph.D. programme is Masters degree from any recognized University/Institute 

or its equivalent. Final year Masters students who are yet to obtain their degree may also appear in the 

admission procedure. At the time of admission only candidates with a M.Sc. degree or equivalent 

degree with at least 55% marks in the subject concerned will be considered. However, for candidates

 awaiting their results, provisional admission with special permission of the Director may be allowed. 

Preference will be given to candidates who have qualified in UGC/CSIR NET JRF or have other

 equivalent fellowship like DBT, INSPIRE, NBHM and ICMR etc.  However, other candidates qualified 

in National level eligibility test) CSIR/UGC/NET-LS/NET-JRF/GATE) may also apply.

When to apply:
For the Autumn Session (starts from July, 2012), candidates should apply online latest by March 31, 2012.

How to apply:
The applicants should open the link (http://registration.iiserkol.ac.in/PhD_Application.html) and properly 

fill the application form as instructed and submit. Applicants should save the properly filled application 

form and take a print as the hard copy of the application.

Documents required
Selected candidates for test/interview should bring a hard copy of application along with the required 

documents listed below at the time of test/interview:

Attested copies of mark sheets and certificates of all examinations starting from high school leaving 

certificate, two letters of recommendation (in sealed envelopes) and a statement of purpose

 (not exceeding 300 words), photo identity and proof of age.

Selection procedure:
List of shortlisted candidates (based on merit, subject specialization and required research area) for 

Test/Interview will be published in the IISER-Kolkata website tentatively in the third week of 

April, 2012. The interview date will be announced along with the shortlisted candidates list. 

The selected candidates will receive the offer letter containing also the last date for joining shortly after the interview.

Course Work and Laboratory rotation:
The Research fellows will have to do course work and laboratory rotations during first semester. 

The course content will be decided by the department concerned for each student according to his / 

her need. Ph. D. Supervisor will be selected only after the course work/Laboratory rotation.
