IIT DELHI SUMMER FELLOSHIP PROGRAM 2012


SUMMER RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMME AT IIT DELHI


IIT Delhi has instituted a prestigious summer research fellowship programme for providing 
an opportunity to exceptionally good undergraduate students of  different engineering 
institutes in India, other than IIT Delhi (and if possible, abroad)  for Top ten of the classes 
to execute an innovative research and development project under the guidance of an IIT 
Delhi faculty. The fellow will register at IIT Delhi as a visiting student; she/he will not be 
required to pay institute registration fees. 
About the Fellowship 
Duration  The Fellowship work can be done in a period of 8-12 weeks which can be 
availed of during at the most two visits. 
Support  The fellowship will cover the following: 
(a) cost of travel in the country, to and from IIT Delhi; 
(b) stay at IIT Delhi during the visit(s), including boarding and lodging in 
the Institute hostels; and 
(c) a fellowship of Rs. 500/- per week. 
The fellow will have to pay the insurance charges. 
Eligibility  Any undergraduate student, who has completed at least 2 years of study 
towards an engineering degree and is amongst top ten positions in her/his 
respective programme will be eligible to apply for this fellowship. Students 
who will be completing this requirement by May 2012 are also eligible. 
How to apply 
Application  The application form should be downloaded from IIT Delhi website. The 
applicant should submit the following:  
(a) Application form   
(b) Resume 
(c) One consolidated grade card; and rank in class. 
(d)  No Objection Certificate from the parent institution stating the starting 
and ending dates for carrying out full time research work at IIT Delhi 
under the fellowship programme. 
(e) One photograph (Passport size), pasted on the application form. 
(f) One reference letter in a sealed envelope.

KERALA UNIVERSITY PHD 2012


Applications are invited in the prescribed form, from eligible candidates for 
registration for Full-time/Part-time research, leading to Ph.D../M.Sc. (Engineering) by 
research degree of the University, for the January 2012 session, subject to availability of 
vacancies. 
 Candidates shall carry out their research under approved guide or guides in a 
University Department or in a Department of a college recognised as research centre or in a 
recognised research institution. 
Eligibility 
A.  Candidates to be considered eligible to apply for registration for Ph.D. research should       
       have: 
       i     Masters degree or its equivalent with not less than 55% marks. 
       ii    Qualified in the Entrance Test conducted by this University of National  
  Eligibility Test conducted by the UGC/CSIR/ICAR/ICMR or GATE or State 
  Level Eligibility Test conducted by the Kerala Government or Fellowship 
  awarded by the KSCSTE or M.Phil degree by research and thesis.  The M.Phil 
                        Degree shall be in the concerned discipline in which the applicant is seeking 
                        registration. 
B.  For  M.Sc. (Engineering by research), the candidate should have 
       i     Bachelors Degree holders in Engineering with not less than 55% marks 
       ii    Qualified in the GATE or Entrance Test conducted by this University or  
  State Level Eligibility Test conducted by the Kerala Government. 
Relaxation of marks 
 Candidates who have got a minimum of ten years of teaching experience at a College 
or University are eligible for a relaxation of 5% marks.  However, in no cases a candidate 
having less than 50% marks be granted registration. 
 Not withstanding the above candidates belonging to  Scheduled Castes and Scheduled 
Tribes who have secured 45% marks in Science subjects and 40% marks in Arts and 
Commerce subjects can apply for registration for Ph.D. research, provided they satisfy the 
other eligibility requirements stipulated in this notification.  Physically/visually challenged 
candidates are eligible for a relaxation of 5% marks for registration for research leading to 
Ph.d. Degree. 
Exemption from entrance test 
 i   College/University teachers with seven or more years of teaching experience and 
      candidates with D.M/M.Ch. Degree are exempted from the Entrance Test. 
 ii  Scientists/Engineers working in approved Research Laboratories either owned 
       or managed by the Central/State Government or in Autonomous Research     
       Institutions of National Status, with seven years experience in the Grade    
       Scientist/Engineer having two research papers published in the recognised   
       research journals of the concerned subject approved by the Board of Studies   
      concerned, are exempted from the Ph.D. Entrance Test.  iii     Candidates with DBT-JRF are exempted from the Ph.D. Entrance Test and they 
           are permitted to register for research leading to Ph.D. Degree in Biotechnology. 
iv   Scientists/Ayurveda Doctors working in Pharmaceuticals/Hospitals/Research 
           Centres owned by Government with 7 years experience and having 2 research 
            papers published are exempted from the Ph.D. Entrance Test. 
Availability of seats 
 All research guides are permitted to guide 8 research scholars, provided the scholars 
produce facility certificates from the respective research centres. 
 Even if a teacher/scientist is an approved guide in more than one discipline the total 
number of students he/she can guide at a time will remain unchanged.  All approved guides 
will be permitted to supervise two foreign students in addition to the stipulated number. 
 In the case of interdisciplinary research the candidate will be allowed to have one    
co-guide depending on the requirement and an approved guide will be permitted to act as    
co-guide for two research scholars at a time and this will not be counted while calculating the 
number of students under the guide. 
 Vacancies available under each supervising teacher/research centre can be ascertained 
from the supervising teacher and the Head of the research centre.  One seat in each subject is 
reserved for applicants belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes if they are 
otherwise eligible. 
Exemption from Research methodology paper of the course work exam. 
 Only those M.Phil degrees which have Research Methodology course in the 
curriculum will be considered for exemption from the Research Methodology paper of the 
course work examination. 
Part-time registration 
Part-time Ph.D. registration shall be restricted to regular/permanent teachers in the 
concerned subjects, of the Departments and affiliated Colleges of the University of Kerala.  
Part-time registration is also extended to teachers who are working in substantive vacancies in 
Government and Aided Colleges in the State of Kerala.  However, the facility of part-time 
Ph.D. registration(1) in Library and Information Science is also extended to those who are 
working as Library Staff in the University of Kerala on regular basis with a minimum of 3 
years experience, if all other conditions are  satisfied and (2) in Management Studies is 
extended to those working in managerial position with a minimum of 3 years experience in 
Government/Public Sector undertakings, provided all other conditions are satisfied.  
Applications for part-time registration should be accompanied by a No Objection Certificate 
from the appointing authority and stating that they are appointed on a regular basis in the 
College/Department.

stamped envelope and demand draft/chalan for Rs.10/- Duly filled in applications should be 
accompanied by a Chalan Receipt/Demand Draft of Rs.500/- as registration fee.  All 
remittance made by demand Drafts should be drawn in favour of the Finance Officer,

University of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram.  The drafts drawn on S.B.T. Branches payable at 
S.B.T. Service Branch, Thiruvananthapuram and on District Co-operative Banks payable at 
State Co-operative Bank, Head Office Branch, Thiruvananthapuram only will be accepted 
from candidates residing within the State.  Those residing outside the State may submit S.B.I. 
Drafts payable at S.B. I. Main Branch, Thiruvananthapuram. 
 Candidates who select University Departments as their research centres shall send 
their applications to the Head of the Department concerned.  Candidates belonging to 
Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes shall send a copy of their application to the Registrar 
also.  Those who select recognised Research Institutions/Departments of affiliated colleges 
shall send their applications to the Registrar.

for admission to various courses.  However, Distance Education Courses will be considered as 
recognized, only if they are further approved by the Distance Education Council, New Delhi also.

About ISPA
Indian Spectro Physics Association (ISPA) is an organisation formed in the year 1998 to promote academic and research activities in the field of spectrophysics. Dr.S.Gunasekaran is the Founder President of ISPA, a registered scientific society.  Under the banner of this brain child ISPA, he has successfully organized one International Conference and four National Conferences.  He has also been organizing Annual Technical Seminars in Physical Sciences for PG and M.Phil Students since 1999, which is the only one of its kind.  During these scientific meets, eminent SpectroPhysicists are identified and honoured with ISPA Awards.
To encourage the young researchers in the field of spectroscopy, ISPA-Dr.S.Gunasekaran Award has been instituted. Dr.S.Gunasekaran’s sustained research work fetched him the highest degree in research, the Doctor of Science from the University of Madras.  He is presented with Doctor of Science Degree in October 2011. His dedicated services to teaching and research are suitably rewarded with many awards.  He is conferred with “Eminent Scientist Award” in 2010 by His Holiness Jagadguru Kanchi Sankaracharya, Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal for his outstanding contribution to Science and Technology.  He has been awarded with “Research Guide Achievement Award” for his outstanding research in the field of Spectroscopy in 2008 and  with “Psychometric Educational Services Award” by The GCC School of Creative Intelligence and Research Foundation Trust for his valuable services and contributions to the Human Resource Development.  He is bestowed with a “Certificate of Appreciation” for the successful conduct of the unique technical seminars for the PG and MPhil students during X State Level Technical Seminar in Physical Sciences for PG and M.Phil Students in 2008.  He is presented with a “Certificate of Appreciation”  by the Jounal Spectrochim.  Acta in 2007 for having the highest number of citations for one of his research articles.  He is honored with Teacher’s Day Award by alumni of Pachaiyappa’s College in 2008 and by Lion’s Club of Anna Nagar in 2007.  He is presented with number of best paper presentation awards in International and National Conferences.
Scope of the Conference
This National Conference is to provide a Forum to scientists and Engineers, who are actively doing research in the fields of Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Bio technology and Environmental Science, including their applications in the areas of Engineering, Industry, Medicine and Environment.
The present conference aims at discussing the recent developments and research findings both in the theoretical and experimental thrust areas of the above mentioned fields from the point of view of industry, pure science, medicine, environmental science etc.

PHYSICAL RESEARCH LABORATORY (P.R.L) -JRF POST 2012

Ph.D. PROGRAMME 

Physical Research Laboratory (PRL) is a premier national research institution under the aegis of the Department of Space, Government of India. Founded in 1947 by Dr. Vikram A. Sarabhai, PRL is known to be the “cradle of space sciences” in India. The laboratory has four campuses, located at Ahmedabad, Mt. Abu and Udaipur. The main campus in Navrangpura, Ahmedabad houses most areas of research activities with the exception of programmes in Astronomy, Astrophysics and Planetary Science & Exploration which are located at Thaltej campus in Ahmedabad. The astronomical and solar observatories are located at Mt. Abu and Udaipur, respectively.
PRL offers Junior Research Fellowships leading to a Ph.D. degree in the following broad scientific areas:

Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) programme starts usually in the month of July/August every year.

Eligibility criteria for applying to the JRF programme:
M.Sc. in one of the following subjects:
(1) Physics, Space Sciences, Atmospheric Sciences, Chemistry (Physical / Nuclear / Analytical), Geology, Geophysics, Ocean Sciences and Climate Sciences.
(2) The candidate must have taken Physics and Mathematics at the Under Graduate level.
(3) A minimum of 60% marks at Bachelor’s and Master’s level are required for all candidates.
Age Limit: Not more than 25 years as on 31st December 2011 (i.e., born on or after 31.12.1986).
Selection Procedure:
All the invited candidates will appear in a written test. The level of test will be based on the Post Graduate syllabi of Indian Universities. Performance in the written test and the latest scores in JEST / GATE / UGC-CSIR NET - JRF, if available, will be considered for qualifying for personal interview that will follow.
All the candidates are required to fill-in the PRL application form.
Those who qualify in the interview will be selected as JRFs at PRL. Candidates whose results are awaited at the time of interview will be admitted provisionally. They will be confirmed admission in PRL subject to their securing at least 60% marks in the qualifying examination i.e. M.Sc.
Fellowship and other relevant facilities being provided by PRL:
Selected JRFs will be paid a fellowship of ` 16,000/- per month which will be raised to ` 18,000/- per month after two years, subject to a satisfactory academic review. A book grant of ` 7,500/- per year will be given for five years to purchase books that are relevant to the research work being carried out by the Research Fellow.
